I was in Branson for business this past week, whilst brother dearest was at Truman Lake in Edwards, Missouri. When my convention was over he swung by and picked me up so we could tour the winery, shop for delectable grillables and finish partaking of the relaxing Truman Lake. I attached for your viewing pleasure a short 8-9 minute clip of our tour and tasting. We tasted 14 wines and I will highlight after the clip, the ones that stood out to me. Enjoy and read below for the notes. Thanks! Peg
The wine list was varied and all the wines are recommended to be drank in 3-4 years due to how young they are. The web address for the winery is www.stonehillwinery.com. The ones I highlighted and notes on others are:
Vidal Blanc This has not yet been entered into competition. I did like this one, it has dry fruity aroma kind of like fruit cocktail, with a touch of oak that wasn’t an overpowering oak.
Chardonel Silver Medal, Missouri Wine Competition, MO.
Chambourcin Gold Medal, Missouri Wine Competition. This had very vibrant aromas of toffee, black currant and cherry compote set off with smoky, toasty oak, butter and a hint of black pepper. Medium body red with soft tannins, (Shiraz like). **Bought a bottle of this!
Traminette Double Gold Medal, National Women’s CA. This wine was crisp and spicy with hints of lime, Golden delicious apples and a hint of butter. **Would buy this one on mail order!
Steinberg White Sweepstakes, San Diego International, CA. This is their number 1 seller and easy to see why. Reisling like German style white wine from fine European-hybrid grape varieties. Light citrus and apples coming through. **Would buy this on mail order as well!
Steinberg Red Silver Medal, Missouri Wine Competition, MO. Color like Grenache or Rose.
Vignoles Gold, San Diego International, CA. This was the 2009 White Wine of The Year. They dub it the jewel of Missouri white wines. Semi-sweet with notes of pineapple, makes it luscious for dessert or sipping.
Golden Rhine Gold Medal, Missouri Wine Competition, MO. A semi-sweet, traditional style white wine similar to Auslese. Good with fresh fruits and other light desserts.
Spumante Blush Silver Medal, Missouri Wine Competition, Mo. Beautiful and delicate pink (also shown bottled in clip above). Good sparkler with strawberry, cherry, light oak, pepper and nutty finish. *Would purchase on mail order.
Pink Catawba Silver Medal, Missouri Wine Competition, MO. Great after dinner wine.
Cream Sherry Gold Medal, Missouri Wine Competition, MO. Sweet, fragrant nutty taste and aroma. Could easily see this poured over ice cream and some other desserts. Note 19% alcohol.
There were some really good wines in this line up the rest were Sparkling juices that are equally has good. If your in Hermann or Branson stop by. Give them a looksee also at www.stonehillwinery.com.
